Chief Risk Officer

Community & Regional Banks

Torrington, CT

2021-08-10

S&W is partnering with one of our premier clients, Torrington Savings Bank (www.torringtonsavings.bank, “TSB”), in the search for the bank’s Chief Risk Officer (“CRO”).

TSB is a 153-year-old, almost $1B, mutually chartered community bank that offers consumer, commercial, and wealth management solutions to customers in western and central Connecticut and beyond. For generations, TSB has upheld its founding mission to help consumers save, businesses grow, and communities and employees prosper. The bank is in excellent financial condition and maintains a strong balance sheet, notably with a core capital ratio of almost 20% (the 2nd highest in Connecticut).  In addition to its 8 retail locations (including its newest branch location in Bristol, CT), TSB offers a full suite of mobile and online solutions that allows its consumer and commercial customers to bank where they want, when they want.  In 2019 the bank underwent a planned transition in executive leadership following the retirement of their President & CEO, and in the past 2 years has rebuilt the senior leadership team with a new President & CEO and new Chief Financial Officer (both internal promotions), as well as the additions of the bank’s first Chief Lending Officer and first Chief Information Officer.  Additionally, TSB has enhanced its Commercial Lending team with strategic hires in both commercial lending and commercial credit.

Reporting directly to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors (with a dotted line to the bank’s President & CEO), and joining a small and collaborative Senior Management team, the Chief Risk Officer will be responsible for the ongoing oversight, development, and improvement of the bank’s risk function, with the goal of risk management continuing to be a key partner in the bank’s growth.  We are seeking well-rounded risk management executives with demonstrated expertise in the regulations impacting community financial institutions, mature leadership competencies, and a growth mindset.  Expertise in credit risk and cyber risk is highly desired.  For additional information about this unique community banking leadership role with one of Connecticut’s most successful franchises, please contact: Cameron Boyd, Managing Partner, Financial Services Practice (cboyd@smithandwilkinson.com) or Zach Zimmerman, Associate, Financial Services Practice (zzimmerman@smithandwilkinson.com).
