Commercial Loan & Credit Officer
Community & Regional Banks
Smith & Wilkinson has been retained by Walden Mutual to manage the search for the organization’s first Commercial Loan & Credit Officer.
Walden Mutual (waldenmutual.com) is seeking the first new mutual bank charter New England has issued in a generation (and the first in New Hampshire in 99 years) with a vision towards becoming a long-term financial partner for sustainable food producers, manufacturers, sellers, brands, and community organizations. Its mission is to enable a thriving New England and New York by funding food while growing community savings. Walden’s mutual model means that upon receiving its charter, the bank will be owned by its depositors instead of shareholders, which will allow it to take a long-term view of success. With an experienced and diverse leadership team, board, and Concord, New Hampshire office already in place, Walden Mutual will be lending through a private loan fund to qualified enterprises and is targeting a state banking charter that will allow it to begin taking deposits in 2022. Walden Mutual will be a digital-first bank offering a full suite of mobile and online solutions for consumer depositors and commercial borrower-depositors across the region.
Reporting to the organization’s Chief Operating Officer, the team’s first Commercial Loan & Credit Officer will play a vital role in the growth of the company’s commercial loan portfolio across the six New England states as well as New York. The role will be involved in all aspects of the life cycle of commercial and agricultural loans from identifying and meeting with prospective borrowers through the underwriting, closing, and initial servicing of the loans. This person will work collaboratively with a small and dedicated team to advance the mission of Walden Mutual by ambitiously pursuing the growth of the portfolio to $100MM and beyond in the near term. New borrowers will be acquired through collaboration with management, the Board, and the Corporators, as well as through an organized and strategic outbound calling effort. Upon receipt of its charter, these important loans will be funded by leveraging the bank’s capital, and we will be looking to develop partnerships with various government sponsored programs.
We are seeking well-rounded commercial lending and credit professionals with a knowledge of agriculture and food-related business lending for this entrepreneurial opportunity. The ideal candidate will first and foremost have a passion for joining a values-driven organization as well as legitimate excitement about building the commercial lending portfolio of a first-in-a-generation bank. A proven track record of new business development success and strong commercial credit acumen and underwriting abilities are a must. For additional information about this unique, growth oriented commercial lending opportunity, please contact any member of our search team: Cameron Boyd, Managing Partner, Financial Services Practice (email@example.com) or Zach Zimmerman, Associate, Financial Services Practice (firstname.lastname@example.org).
