Community & Regional Banks

Somerville, MA

2021-07-14

Due to the continued growth of the bank, Smith & Wilkinson has been retained by Middlesex Federal Savings (www.middlesexfederal.com) to manage the search for the bank’s Controller. Headquartered in Davis Square in Somerville, Massachusetts, Middlesex Federal is an approximately $500MM mutual bank serving consumer and business customers primarily in greater Boston. The bank operates 3 Retail locations in Somerville and Medford as well as a Loan Center in Somerville and offers a full suite of mobile and online solutions. Because of its national charter, mutual ownership structure, and proximity to a major market, Middlesex Federal became an attractive partner for a New York-based FinTech called Novo (www.banknovo.com). Founded in 2016, Novo is a mobile business banking platform supporting small businesses nationally. Because the bank holds Novo deposits on its balance sheet, the partnership creates opportunities for the bank, and challenges for the Finance & Accounting team not available at most banks its size.

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will lead the bank’s accounting staff and be responsible for the overall integrity and maintenance of the general ledger, fixed assets, investments, accounts payable, and general accounting functions. Additionally, the Controller will play a key role in producing key financial reports, interfacing with bank management, the Board of Directors, and regulatory agencies, lead audit engagements and regulatory examinations, participate in the ALM process, and initiate process and software improvements. We are seeking outstanding finance & accounting talent for this very unique community bank leadership role. For additional information, please contact Cameron Boyd, Partner & Practice Director, Financial Services (cboyd@smithandwilkinson.com) or Mike Rouillard, Associate, Financial Services (mrouillard@smithandwilkinson.com).
