S&W has been retained by Reading Cooperative Bank ( to manage the search for the bank’s Vice President, Credit Officer.

Founded in 1886, “with a mission to make it possible for the average ‘workingman’ to purchase a home,” Reading Cooperative Bank is an approximately $660MM, Massachusetts-based mutual bank. As a mutual bank, the bank is owned and governed by its customers, and its mutual ownership structure allows it to operate under the mantra of “people over profits, every time.” As the bank has evolved it has grown into a progressive and technology-driven community financial institution embodying the best of what a community bank can be-committed to the communities it serves with all of the modern technology offerings that allow its customers to bank where and when they want. In addition to its 8 existing retail locations, the bank is also opening a de novo branch in Lawrence, as well as acquiring branches from another Massachusetts-based mutual bank. Reading Cooperative Bank is profitable, efficient, capitalized, and has great asset quality (noncurrent loans to loans of 0.21%), and maintains an approximately $490MM loan portfolio, 90% of which is secured by real estate.

Reporting to the bank’s SVP, Chief Lending Officer, this important and highly visible role will be responsible for the management of the bank’s Commercial Credit function. The Credit Officer will lead a team of Credit Analysts and take ownership of ALLL, reporting, annual reviews, and deal flow, all while working collaboratively with the bank’s team of seasoned Commercial Lenders. We are seeking exceptional commercial credit talent for this community bank leadership role. The ideal candidate will have experience across a diverse range of credit types, including CRE, C&I, and Construction. Prior management experience is strongly desired as is a strong customer orientation and team-first approach to work.
